Here is a brief history of the Flyleaf band:
The band started in 2002 with 5 members from the Temple/Belton, Texas. They had played under the names of Sporos and Listen in 2001. In May of 2002 they became Passerby. They played mostly in the Central Texas area. In 2004 they signed a recording contract with Octone and J Records and changed their name to Flyleaf. They played their first American tour with a band called Trust Company. In October of 2005 they released their debut album entitled “Flyleaf”. In 2006 they played a record 175 concerts in America, the UK, Germany and Japan. In February of 2007 the band did a 4 city tour in Australia. In June of 2006 the band sold over 500,000 copies of their debut album and received a RIAA certified Gold Record. In 2008 the band went on a European tour with the band Korn to 25 different countries. Later in 2008 the band attained an RIAA certified Platinum Record. In 2009 the band was invited to be the guest band at the Muz Music Awards in Moscow, Russia. A month later that year the band got an award from BMI for the song “All Around Me”. A little later that same year the band was invited to go to Afghanistan to entertain the troops. At the end of 2010 the band had played a total of 755 concerts. That same year they played a 5 different locations in America for the “Rock the River Concerts” sponsored by the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association and featured Franklin Graham. Also that same year the band went to Alaska and played concerts in Anchorage and Hooper Bay.
In 2011 the band took a sabbatical leave for the birth of Lacey Mosley Sturm’s son, Jack. The rest of the band took a well deserved rest to focus on what the future held for the band. In 2012 the band’s front of house sound man, Rich Caldwell was killed in a freak car accident near his home in Bryan/College Station, Texas. In October of that same year the lead singer Lacey Sturm left the band to become a full time Mom. The band replaced Lacey with Kristen May, the former vocalist for the band Vedera in November of 2012. Later that year and in the Spring of 2013 the band toured with Drowning Pool and P.O.D. The band also did a 3 city tour of Australia, a 2 city tour in Russia and a tour to entertain the troops in Okinawa, Japan.
In late 2013 and early 2014 the band did crowd sourcing with Pledge Music to finance their new album in the Summer of 2014. In June of 2014 the band signed a recording contract with Loud and Proud Records with producer Don Gilmore. The band released their first video of the song “Set Me On Fire” on July 9th, 2014. Their 4th full-length record called “Between The Stars” is set to be released on September 16th, 2014.
