APOCALYPTICA’S NEW ALBUM “SHADOWMAKER” OUT TODAY

Available now on iTunes and Spotify

“Apocalyptica is best known for its cello-driven Metallica covers, but the outfit, while still exceling with instrumentals, has also diversified its sound since debuting in 1993. On their eighth studio full-length, producer Nick Raskulinecz showcases their current blend of classical riffs, modern rock melancholy and manic rhythms.”

After the worldwide success of 2010’s “7th Symphony”, Finnish cello rockers Apocalyptica release their 8th studio album produced by Nick Raskulinecz, featuring former Scars On Broadway guitarist Franky Perez on vocal tracks and upcoming live dates.

Since their inception in 1993, the cello wielding quartet have redefined the boundaries between rock, metal and classical music in an unprecedented way: they’ve not so much rewritten the rulebook as penned a brand new sound all their own. Formed initially by four virtuosos at Helsinki’s Sibelius Academy, over the course of seven studio albums and selling more than four million copies worldwide, they have forged a reputation as an act capable of bringing both heavy and more traditional musical spheres together. From bow-eviscerating speed to spine-shivering waves of sound, Apocalyptica’s sonic palette is as rich as it is diverse: Metallica covers, Wagnerian tributes alongside international Orchestra’s and collaborations with artists like Slipknot, Gavin Rossdale, Dave Lombardo and Ville Valo.

Now, with the release of their eighth album “Shadowmaker”, cellists Eicca Toppinen, Paavo Lötjönen, Perttu Kivilaakso and drummer Mikko Sirén are taking on a new musical challenge. Working with Franky Perez as exclusive singer on the vocal tracks as well as on foreseeable touring commitments, elevates Apocalyptica’s musical vision to a new level of coherence between studio production and live performance, and renews their focus on the band’s homogeneity after recent feature projects. “Franky has been fantastic,” says Toppinen, “He has a great voice and he fits us and our sound brilliantly – we couldn’t be more pleased. Additionally, it will be great for the fans to come and see the new songs live on tour sung by him. We’re just incredibly excited for people to hear this album, I feel it is our strongest yet, the material is just so powerful.”

“Shadowmaker” is a body of work, which slices through every facet of human emotion while maintaining a consistent musical sensibility that has become the innovative quartet’s trademark. The new album was produced by Grammy awardee Nick Raskulinecz (Foo Fighters, Deftones) and features ten songs on the standard CD including seven vocal tracks. Available formats of “Shadowmaker” include the regular CD, a Limited Edition with two bonus tracks, heavyweight double vinyl (incl. CD version) with two bonus tracks, a Limited Collector’s Box featuring the limited CD, double vinyl and a special booklet, as well as digital versions. Currently, Apocalyptica are touring the US and Canada before the band will be playing festivals including UK “Download” and open air shows in Europe this summer. October and November will see them on an extensive European headline tour. Tickets on sale now!
